About the Shop
What is a terrarium?
A terrarium is a planted ecosystem built inside a glass container. Some are fully enclosed, some are partially open, but all are designed to create a balanced environment where plants can thrive with minimal maintenance.
Why is your shop called Plush Moon Terrarium Co?
Plush Moon Terrarium Co represents the balance between science and creativity! Think soft, whimsical design paired with intentional, well-built ecosystems. Each terrarium is meant to feel both magical and thoughtfully constructed.
Can I touch or handle the animals in the shop?
No. Any live creatures in the shop are sensitive and for viewing only. Please help us keep them safe by looking with eyes, not hands.
I want to make my own terrarium. What are my options?
I want to make my own terrarium. What are my options?
You have a few choices:
-
Build using one of our curated glass vessels
-
Bring your own lidded glass container (BYOG)
-
Book a private group building workshop for your company or party
I have a really cool container. Can I turn it into a terrarium?
Yes! Bring Your Own Glass (BYOG) builds are welcome. Containers must be clean and able to be sealed. Wide-mouth containers are strongly recommended. You’re welcome to email us photos and measurements ahead of time if you’re unsure.
Can I return a terrarium?
Due to the use of live plants and materials, all terrarium sales are final once completed. We’re always happy to provide care guidance if something doesn’t look right
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept major credit cards, debit cards, cash, bitcoin and contactless payment options in-store.
Do you sell empty glass terrarium jars/containers?
Yes, we carry a rotating selection of glass vessels ranging from simple to one-of-a-kind vintage and specialty pieces.
Do you sell terrarium supplies?
Yes! We sell substrates, mosses, plants, and bioactive materials individually so you can customize your build or take supplies home for a weekend project.
Do you sell live terrarium animals?
We offer select bioactive additions such as springtails and snails! We do not sell reptiles or amphibians. All live additions are offered based on container suitability and guest readiness.
Are terrariums pet-safe?
Many terrariums are safe to display around pets, but we recommend keeping them out of reach for safety. If somehow opened by your pet(s), plants may not be pet-safe if ingested, so placement matters!
Terrarium Care
Do I need to water my terrarium?
Yes, but this should be done only when your terrarium needs water. Terrariums need far less water than traditional houseplants. Overwatering is the most common issue we see :(
How do I water my terrarium? Is tap water okay to water my terrarium?
Use small amounts of water at a time, focusing on dampening the soil rather than soaking it.
We do not recommend tap water. Many municipal water sources contain chlorine, chloramines, or minerals that can build up over time and stress plants and beneficial microbes.
We recommend using:
-
Filtered water
-
Distilled water
-
Rainwater (if collected cleanly)
What kind of light does my terrarium need?
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can overheat the glass and damage plants.
Help! My terrarium doesn’t look right. Can you help?
Absolutely. You’re welcome to email us photos and questions anytime at help@pmterrarium.com.
Many issues can be resolved with small adjustments to lighting, placement, or watering, and you’re welcome to email us photos so we can take a look.
In some cases, terrariums may benefit from an in-store visit so we can assess things more closely. Depending on the condition, a refresh or partial rebuild may be recommended to help reset the environment and give your plants the best chance to thrive. If that’s the case, we’ll walk you through your options before moving forward.
Is mold normal in a terrarium?
Yes, a small amount of mold is very common, especially in the first few weeks after a terrarium is built. Terrariums are humid environments, and mold can appear as the ecosystem balances itself.
In many cases, light mold will resolve on its own as things settle in and if added, beneficial microorganisms (springtails) start to establish.
What does terrarium mold look like?
Mold may appear as:
-
White or fuzzy patches on soil or wood
-
Thin web-like growth
-
Small surface spots that weren’t there before
This is different from plant rot or dying plants, which we can also help identify if you’re unsure!
When should I be concerned about mold?
If mold:
-
Continues spreading rapidly
-
Has a strong odor
-
Covers plants or causes them to decline
In-Store Terrarium Building

Your booking includes:
-
Up to 1 Hour Guided instruction
-
A dedicated workstation
-
Access to curated materials and plants
For specifics on what is included with each booking option, please see our booking page here!
How many people can participate?
Each build uses one workstation. Additional guests assisting or observing require a Building Buddy add-on.
Is there an age requirement and are there rules for little ones in the shop?
Yes we do have some rules since we have live plants, small animals, and lots of glass, we ask everyone to help keep the space calm and safe.
Please help us by:
-
Using walking feet
-
Using indoor voices
-
No running or jumping in the shop or build area
If the space becomes too loud or unsafe, a team member may step in and ask for voices or movement to calm down. This helps protect our living creatures, the terrariums, and everyone visiting.
Will photos or videos be taken in the shop?
We occasionally take photos or short videos in the shop for educational and marketing purposes. Please let a team member know if you prefer not to be included and we’ll be happy to accommodate!
Can I bring guests who aren’t building?
Build areas are reserved for booked participants. Guests who wish to stay in the build area must be added as a Building Buddy. Otherwise, they’re welcome to browse the shop while they wait!
What happens if I finish early?
That’s totally okay! Some builds take less time than others. Your booking reserves up to one hour of guided build time, but you’re welcome to finish sooner if you feel happy with your terrarium.
What happens if I don’t finish my terrarium in time?
If additional time is available, an Additional Build Time add on will be added during your session in 30 min to 1 hour increments.
Can I start a terrarium and finish it later?
Terrariums are designed to be completed during your session so plants and materials are properly placed and balanced. In some cases, supplies may be purchased to finish a project at home, but live builds are not typically paused and stored.
Do you offer refunds if my plants don’t survive?
Because terrariums include live plants and materials, all sales are final once completed. We’re always happy to offer care guidance and troubleshooting if issues arise.
Can I bring outside plants, soil, or decorations?
At this time, all terrarium materials must be purchased in-store to ensure compatibility, cleanliness, and long-term success of your build.
Can I bring a very large or heavy container?
Large or heavy containers may require additional build time and staff assistance. We strongly recommend emailing photos and measurements ahead of your visit at help@pmterrarium.com so we can advise you properly.
